About Lasers

The name LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The laser used in the Epila hair removal machine uses a particular type of laser called a Semiconductor laser diode. These types of laser can be used for many applications and show up in an amazing range of products and technologies. You will find them in everything from CD players to printers to dental drills and used in surgical operations and to treat skin diseases. They all use lasers, and what distinguishes one application from another is the spectral wavelength of light that is emitted. The laser diode used in Epila has a unique wavelength of 808nm which has a single colour attribute, that contributes to the hair removal treatment. Although the light emitted from the sun consists of different wavelengths of lights, the laser diode used in Epila is a light which has only one wavelength. In other words, lasers have a characteristic, which respond to only one colour.

Laser Hair Removal

When the laser is absorbed by skin tissue, it generates thermal injuries on skin tissue by transforming into heat energy. Thermal injuries of skin tissue dissolve the tissue on degrees over 100 and cause scars arisen from irreversible degeneration on degrees between 50 and 100. Reversible regeneration is generated under 50 degrees, and this makes the skin tissue possible to be restored to normal condition. The degree of thermal injuries are determined by wavelength of the laser, intensity of light, the time emitted, absorbing material and characteristics, etc. When applied to surgical operations lasers can treat a variety of skin diseases without causing any side effects. The laser used for hair removal destroys the root of hair by emission on hair or surroundings after being absorbed into the pigment. The principal of laser hair removal is that the light energy emitted by a specific wavelength of laser which is selectively absorbed by the melanin pigment located in hair follicles, destroys the root of hair by transforming into thermal energy.

Features
  • Easy to use high frequency semiconductor laser that causes no side effects in treating hair for removal.
  • Includes safety feature to ensure safe and easy use in the home.
  • The laser emits hair targeting light within a short distance through an optical lens which causes no harm to people.
  • Adjustable the power function to control the amount of laser light emitted.
  • Slim and portable design that fits easily into any carry case for your travelling convenience.
  • Treat dark hair in almost any part of the body, such as arm, leg, eye brow, bikini line, beard, etc. However, it is important not to treat on or near the nipples and perineal region that have much pigment precipitation. When you treat facial regions, be careful not to expose the eyes to the laser.
  • Includes an ice pack to use before and after treatment.
Precautions and Tips

For safety reasons, do not expose eyes to the laser. It is strongly advised that you wear protective goggles if you intend to use Epila near the eye. As direct exposure of the laser light to the eye may cause retinal damage. If you wish to purchase protective laser goggles please click on the link below.

After use, keep the machine out of the reach of children.
  • Results may not be as good on long, fine hair. For best results trim hair to 1-2 mm to ensure laser gets to the root of each hair.
  • Apply an ice pack or substitute to the area to be treated before, during and after treatment, this will reduce the effects of the heat generated by the laser.
  • Direct the laser as close to the root as possible.
  • Use small circular movements on the hair to be treated.
  • Get assistance for difficult, hard to reach areas, alternatively use small circular movements.
  • You may experience minor discomfort during treatment similar to a slight pin-prick or mild sting - this indicates that the root of the hair has been successfully treated.
  • If the treatment fails to remove hair on the first application, wait for approximately a week the hair should fall out of its own accord. Failing this reapply the laser.
  • Do not use more than 2-3 pulses of laser on each hair - the machine can be set to pulses of between 1-6 seconds.
  • For your safety the machine will automatically cut off after 20 minutes. You can reset the machine in order to continue with treatment by pressing the on switch.
  • Do not use for prolonged periods - this may affect the laser.
  • If you experience any difficulties discontinue use.
